My No Sew Project! A Canopy Bed Crown!

I am finally getting around to posting my "no sew project."  I love to sew, but my sewing machine is acting up and I'm too lazy (the weather has been so cold) to take it to be fixed.
I first have to tell you that I found my daughter's Ralph Lauren Faye Floral Queen size comforter for $10 at a local store called Gabriel's.  They have great name brand items at low, low prices (their slogan).  I would not put them in the same category as TJMaxx or Marshalls, but every now and again, you can find a good deal.

Here is how I made the bed crown:
I purchased a matching queen flat sheet on E-bay for $11.  I folded it lengthwise and cut right down the center.  I used hem tape (love this stuff) and made a 1" hem down the cut sides.  I took two identical ugly gold shelves and glued one on top of the other and painted them white. Similar to the one shown here.  Then I took the tops of the two long fabric pieces, folded them back and forth, stitched a little velcro with sticky sides to the tops of the fabric and shoved them on the underside of the shelf.  I also added some double sided tape to give it extra strength.  The bottoms I just puddled and voila....it's done!  My daughter feels like a princess!

One of these days I will get around to adding strands of pearls as shown on this bed crown!

If any part of my directions are unclear, please feel free to e-mail or comment with any questions.
